Smart TV Setup for Explore Lounge: What's Supported Today
"Smart TV" covers several different platforms. Here's how to identify yours, which ones run Explore Lounge today, and which are coming soon.
"Smart TV" isn't a single platform — it's several different operating systems that all happen to run on televisions. That matters for setup, because Explore Lounge currently runs on Android TV and Google TV based smart TVs and boxes, while Samsung and LG's own native TV platforms are coming soon. This guide explains how to tell which platform your TV uses and what that means for setup today.
What counts as a Smart TV
A Smart TV is simply a television with a built-in operating system and app store, so it can run streaming apps without an extra box. Several different operating systems compete in this space, including Android TV and Google TV, Samsung's Tizen, and LG's webOS. Two TVs can both be marketed as "Smart TVs" while running completely different, incompatible platforms underneath.
How to identify your Smart TV platform
- 1
Check the home screen and app store
If your TV's app store is the Google Play Store, it's running Android TV or Google TV. Samsung TVs use their own Smart Hub / Samsung Apps store; LG TVs use the LG Content Store.
- 2
Check Settings > About
Most TVs list the operating system or software platform under a Device Info or About section in Settings.
- 3
Check the remote and branding
A remote with a dedicated Google Assistant or Google TV button is a strong signal you have Android TV or Google TV.
What's supported on Explore Lounge today
- Fire TV and Fire Stick
- Android TV and Google TV (including many smart TVs built on these platforms)
- Compatible Android TV boxes
These use one of two app builds — ARMv7 for Fire TV, Fire Stick, and older Android TV devices, or ARM64 for newer Android TV, Google TV, and modern boxes. The installation guide covers picking the right one and walks through setup step by step.
What's coming soon
If your Smart TV isn't supported yet
If your TV runs Samsung Tizen or LG webOS, a Fire TV Stick or a compatible Android TV box connected to any HDMI port gives you full access to Explore Lounge today, on the same television. It's a straightforward way to start watching without waiting on native Samsung or LG support.
Frequently asked questions
How do I set up a Smart TV for Explore Lounge?
First identify your Smart TV's platform. If it's Android TV or Google TV, install Explore Lounge the same way as any Android TV device — see the installation guide for the exact steps. If it's Samsung or LG, native support isn't available yet; a connected Fire TV Stick or Android TV box works on the same TV today.
Does Explore Lounge work on Samsung Smart TVs?
Not natively yet. Samsung's Tizen platform doesn't run Android apps, so a dedicated Samsung release is required and is currently being prepared.
Does Explore Lounge work on LG Smart TVs?
Not natively yet. LG's webOS platform doesn't run Android apps, so a dedicated LG release is required and is currently being prepared.
What if my Smart TV isn't Android TV or Google TV?
Connect a Fire TV Stick or a compatible Android TV box to any HDMI input on your TV. That gives you full access to Explore Lounge today regardless of the TV's built-in platform.
